Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has called for the immediate resignation of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following a landmark court ruling that nullified the bench which presided over his inauguration.
Speaking on Saturday, Gakuya argued that the court’s decision casts serious doubt on the legitimacy of Kindiki’s assumption of office. “The court has spoken. The bench that cleared Kindiki’s inauguration has been dismissed. That alone is enough reason for him to vacate office,” said the outspoken MP.
The ruling, which has stirred political debate across the country, effectively invalidates the judicial panel that greenlit Kindiki’s swearing-in. Legal experts are now examining whether the decision could trigger a constitutional crisis or lead to a fresh vetting process.
Gakuya insisted that the integrity of public office must be upheld at all times, and urged relevant authorities to take swift action in accordance with the law. “No one is above the law. If the process was flawed, then we cannot continue pretending all is well,” he added.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the judiciary and the executive for the next course of action in what could become a pivotal moment in Kenya’s political landscape.
