Kitui Governor Julius Malombe today presided over the graduation ceremony of 160 youth drawn from all the 40 wards of Kitui County under the Kitui County Youth Mentorship and Digital Skills Programme (KCYMDSP), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to empowering young people through digital transformation and innovation.
Speaking during the ceremony held in Kitui town, Governor Malombe described the programme as a major step towards addressing youth unemployment in the county by equipping young people with practical digital skills, entrepreneurial knowledge, and mentorship opportunities. He noted that the county government remains focused on creating sustainable solutions that prepare the youth for the rapidly changing job market.
Governor Malombe emphasized that the digital economy has opened up vast opportunities for young people, ranging from online jobs to technology-driven businesses, and challenged the graduates to seize these opportunities with confidence and determination. He said the future belongs to those who are ready to embrace innovation, technology, and creativity as tools for economic growth and self-reliance.
The Governor further highlighted his administration’s continued investment in digital infrastructure aimed at expanding access to digital learning across the county. He pointed to key milestones, including the connection of eight vocational training centres to Wi-Fi and the establishment of the Kanyongonyo Digital Community Centre, which will serve as a hub for digital learning and innovation.
Governor Malombe encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills acquired through the programme to transform not only their own lives but also their communities. He challenged them to think beyond traditional employment and focus on creating opportunities that can generate income and contribute to economic development.
“Think beyond jobs. Create opportunities. Embrace skills. Embrace innovation. Embrace technology. Be creators, not consumers. Be innovators, not spectators,” said Governor Malombe, in a powerful message that inspired the graduates and attendees.
The graduation marked another significant milestone in Kitui County’s efforts to build a digitally empowered generation, with Governor Malombe reiterating that youth empowerment remains central to his development agenda. His leadership continues to position Kitui as a county committed to nurturing talent, innovation, and economic prosperity for future generations.
