Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe on Thursday embarked on a development tour of Ngomeni Ward, Mwingi North Subcounty, where he commissioned key projects in health, water, and education, reaffirming his government’s commitment to improving service delivery and transforming lives in remote areas of the county.
The day’s events began with the commissioning of the newly constructed Kimela Dispensary, a Level II health facility that is expected to greatly ease access to healthcare for local residents who previously trekked 25 kilometers to Kyuso for medical services.
Speaking during the event, Governor Malombe emphasized his administration’s priority of expanding health infrastructure across Kitui. “We are keen on ensuring that no resident is left behind when it comes to accessing quality healthcare. This facility is a milestone in our quest to promote the well-being of our people,” he said.
The county Minister for Health and Sanitation, Madam Ruth Koki, assured residents that a vaccine storage fridge would be delivered to the dispensary before December to enable full immunization services. She further noted that the facility has a maternity wing, in line with the governor’s focus on ensuring no mother dies while giving birth.
Area MCA Nzungi Ngwele, together with other leaders and community members, lauded the governor for prioritizing healthcare in Ngomeni Ward and other remote parts of Kitui.
From Kimela, the governor proceeded to commission the River Thunguthu–Mwangeni Sumpwell Water Supply Scheme in Kalwa/Kavuti, Ngomeni Ward. The project is expected to produce 50,000 litres of water daily, benefiting over 300 households.
The water project features a sumpwell with a submersible pump and motor, a solar pumping unit, a guard house, a 4.1-kilometre rising mainline from Thunguthu River to Mwangeni, a 10,000-litre water kiosk, and a cattle trough.
According to the county Department of Water, the scheme will be managed by KIMWASCO, with additional plans underway to install elevated tanks at Mwangeni and extend the supply line to Kalwa Shopping Centre.
Later in the day, Dr. Malombe presided over the commissioning of the renovated dining hall at Ngomeni Vocational Training Centre (VTC). The facelift, undertaken by his administration, has modernized the facility and created a better environment for trainees.
Addressing the gathering, the county boss underscored the importance of vocational training centres in youth empowerment and skills development. “We are committed to equipping our young people with practical skills that will open doors for employment and self-reliance,” he said.
Throughout the events, Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani accompanied Governor Malombe and addressed residents, reaffirming the county government’s dedication to delivering the Kitui Promise.
The development tour was hailed by residents as a clear demonstration of the Malombe administration’s focus on uplifting communities through investments in health, water, and education.
