Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has once again demonstrated his commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience through the successful rehabilitation and expansion of the Kwa Kakui Earth Dam, a transformative water project under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program.
The project, which was initiated and overseen under the leadership of Governor Mutula, has revitalized a once silted and unreliable dam into a sustainable water resource now serving hundreds of residents and institutions in Mukaa Ward. The dam was expanded by 8,000 cubic meters and its spillway fortified with stone pitching to ensure long-term structural integrity and resilience.
In a bold move to enhance access to safe water, a modern solar-powered water treatment system has also been installed. The facility includes a flocculation unit, sedimentation tanks, filtration systems, and chlorination making water safe for drinking and household use.
One of the major beneficiaries of this milestone development is Maiani Girls Secondary School, where learners now enjoy uninterrupted access to clean water for drinking, sanitation, and general school use. This has dramatically improved hygiene standards and academic performance.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has lauded the project as part of his administration’s broader agenda to invest in climate-smart infrastructure, particularly in water security for both domestic and agricultural use.
“Our focus is to empower communities through sustainable, home-grown solutions that safeguard lives and livelihoods. Kwa Kakui Dam is not just about water it’s about dignity, health, and economic resilience for our people,” Governor Mutula stated.
This initiative adds to a growing list of transformative projects being implemented across Makueni County under Governor Mutula’s leadership anchored in accountability, innovation, and inclusive development.
