Governor Mutula Unveils Grand Vision for Youth Empowerment as Kakuswi Sports Complex Takes Shape

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, unveiling plans for a world-class 3,000-seater sports complex at Kakuswi Playground in Mbooni Sub-county.

The ultra-modern facility, set to transform the face of sports in the region, will be developed through a unique public-private partnership between the Government of Makueni County and the Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care Charitable Trust.

Designed to nurture budding athletic talent, the upcoming Kakuswi Sports Complex will feature a football pitch, volleyball and basketball courts, and a minimum six-lane running track, making it one of the most comprehensive sports centers in the Lower Eastern region.

During a high-level meeting in Wote, Governor Mutula hosted the Trust’s Chief Executive Officer Rahul Parekh to review the project designs and formalize the partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

As part of the agreement, the Trust will inject KSh 500,000 annually for maintenance during the first three years, and KSh 300,000 per year thereafter, ensuring sustainability and upkeep of the facility.

In a show of innovation and sustainability, the project will also tap into an existing borehole yielding 60,000 litres per hour to serve both the sports complex and the surrounding community. The Trust will further support the installation of a water distribution network, extending the benefits of the initiative beyond sports to everyday community life.

Speaking during the signing, Governor Mutula flanked by Sports CEC Eng. Sebastian Kyoni and Sports Director Ambrose Kisoi described the project as a turning point in Makueni’s youth and sports agenda.

“This is more than a sports project; it’s an investment in our young people’s dreams. Through facilities like Kakuswi, we are unlocking potential, promoting healthy living, and opening pathways for careers in sports,” Governor Mutula affirmed.

He emphasized that the complex aligns with his administration’s broader vision of transformative infrastructure, youth empowerment, and inclusive development, noting that Makueni aims to become a hub for athletic excellence and talent development.

Residents and sports enthusiasts across Mbooni have warmly welcomed the news, expressing optimism that the facility will bring new opportunities, promote local tournaments, and boost small businesses around the area.

Once complete, the Kakuswi Sports Complex will not only stand as a symbol of modern sports infrastructure but also as a testament to Governor Mutula’s deliberate efforts to invest in people, promote partnerships, and build a vibrant sporting culture in Makueni County.
