A dramatic interception at Machakos Level 5 Hospital has once again underscored Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s firm resolve to root out corruption in county institutions.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, security officers stationed at the facility intercepted Madam Lucy Wabosha, the officer in charge of the Blood Transfusion Centre, while attempting to smuggle out medical reagents worth an estimated KSh. 196,000. The confiscated items included 7 boxes of ENEFY Diluent and 3 boxes of Lyse Solutions, crucial reagents for patient care.
The arrest came barely 24 hours after Ms. Wabosha had been issued with a transfer letter following earlier malpractice allegations. According to hospital authorities, her attempt was foiled through real-time monitoring by newly installed CCTV cameras a direct initiative of Governor Ndeti aimed at ending the longstanding pilferage of drugs and supplies that has plagued the facility for years.
Governor Wavinya, who has consistently declared war on graft, reiterated that her administration will not tolerate theft of public resources under any circumstance. “Corruption is the biggest enemy of service delivery. Every single shilling meant for the people of Machakos must be protected. Anyone found engaging in theft or misuse of public property will face the full force of the law, regardless of their position,” she stated.
The case has since been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officially booked under OB Number 73 at 8:23 p.m. on the same day. Investigators confirmed that the matter is being treated with urgency to ensure accountability and deterrence.
The Machakos County Government has in recent months stepped up its anti-corruption mechanisms, including surveillance systems, strict auditing, and staff transfers, all intended to seal loopholes exploited by unscrupulous officers.
Residents have lauded the Governor’s bold stance, noting that rampant theft of medical supplies had not only strained service delivery but also risked lives. “This is the kind of leadership we need. For the first time, we feel that theft of hospital supplies is being taken seriously,” said a patient’s relative at the facility.
Governor Ndeti’s message is clear: the era of unchecked graft in Machakos hospitals is over. With her reforms, the county is sending a strong warning to public officers that betrayal of public trust will not be entertained.
