Governor Wavinya Ndeti Accelerates Climate Resilience Through Maluva Dam Rehabilitation, Unlocking Water Security and Economic Opportunities.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration continues to make significant strides in expanding sustainable water infrastructure as part of its commitment to improving livelihoods, enhancing food security, and building climate resilience across Machakos County. One of the flagship projects delivering tangible benefits is the rehabilitation of Maluva Dam in Sengani, which has become a critical source of water for surrounding communities. The dam now provides reliable water for domestic use, livestock, and agricultural activities, helping families cope with the effects of prolonged dry spells while supporting local economic development. As part of the county government’s comprehensive restoration programme, the dam was successfully desilted to increase its water-holding capacity and improve its long term sustainability. In addition, it has been stocked with fish, laying a strong foundation for the development of aquaculture as a new economic venture. Once fishing activities are fully operational, the initiative is expected to create employment opportunities, diversify household incomes, and strengthen food and nutrition security for residents.Governor Wavinya Ndeti reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to implementing practical, people-centred development projects that improve livelihoods while safeguarding natural resources for future generations. She noted that strategic investments in water infrastructure remain central to her government’s agenda of ensuring every community has access to reliable water while creating sustainable economic opportunities. To protect the investment and guarantee its long term sustainability, the county government will fence Maluva Dam to prevent encroachment, enhance public safety, and promote responsible use of the resource for the benefit of present and future generations. The rehabilitation of Maluva Dam reflects Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s broader vision of transforming Machakos County through climate smart development. By investing in resilient water infrastructure, environmental conservation, and livelihood-enhancing initiatives, her administration is strengthening the county’s capacity to withstand the effects of climate change while empowering communities to achieve greater economic prosperity. The project stands as another milestone in Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s development agenda, demonstrating her administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that improve lives, secure water resources, and drive inclusive growth across Machakos County.
