Approximately 10,000 residents in Mwala Sub-County are set to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water following the official commissioning of the rehabilitated Mavindu Springs Water Project by H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH.The project marks another significant milestone in Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s commitment to expanding access to clean water and improving the quality of life for communities across Machakos County. Through the rehabilitation works, more than 1,000 households in Kya Ngwasi, Lower Isinga, and Kalimani villages will now enjoy a reliable and sustainable water supply. The project includes a 3-kilometre pipeline network and two public water kiosks, bringing safe water closer to homes and reducing the burden, particularly on women and children who previously travelled long distances in search of water.Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Wavinya Ndeti reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to invest in transformative water infrastructure that guarantees every resident access to clean, safe, and affordable water. She noted that water remains a key pillar of her development agenda because of its direct impact on public health, food security, education, and economic empowerment.

The Governor also announced that Phase II of the project will extend the pipeline to Kanzokea, Upper Unyiani, and Lower Unyiani villages, increasing the number of beneficiary households to approximately 1,500 and further strengthening water access in the area.

The rehabilitation of the Mavindu Springs Water Project underscores the county government’s ongoing efforts to enhance water security, improve sanitation and health outcomes, support agriculture and local businesses, and accelerate socio-economic development through sustainable infrastructure investments.

Under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s leadership, Machakos County continues to prioritize people-centred development by delivering practical solutions that address the everyday needs of residents while laying the foundation for long-term growth and prosperity.
