Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has underscored the significance of the county’s newly updated Valuation Roll, describing it as a transformative milestone that will promote fairness, transparency, and sustainable development across the region.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, Governor Wavinya said the Valuation Roll is a comprehensive legal register that captures the market value of all land and properties within Machakos County. She explained that the document serves as a critical tool in guiding land rates, planning, and equitable revenue collection.
“The Valuation Roll is essentially a comprehensive legal register containing the market value of all lands and properties within our county. In layman’s language, the Valuation Roll is a price list for land in Machakos County. Just as the price of bread changes over 10 years, the value of land changes,” said Governor Wavinya.
The governor noted that updating the Valuation Roll was necessary to reflect current market realities, especially in a fast-growing county like Machakos, where land values have significantly changed over time due to urban expansion, infrastructure development, and rising investment.
Governor Wavinya emphasized that the updated register will help the county government improve service delivery by ensuring that landowners contribute fairly based on the present value of their properties. She said the move will also strengthen accountability in land administration and support long-term planning for roads, markets, hospitals, and other essential public services.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to modernizing county systems and implementing reforms that will benefit residents both now and in the future, saying the updated Valuation Roll marks a major step toward a more organized, transparent, and prosperous Machakos.
