Water remains the foundation of life, economic growth, and sustainable development. In her continued commitment to ensuring every resident has access to reliable water, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is spearheading investments that are transforming livelihoods across the county.
The desilted Isooni Earth Dam in Matungulu West has significantly improved water security for the surrounding communities by increasing its storage capacity and ensuring a more dependable supply of water for domestic use, livestock, and agricultural activities.
The rehabilitation of the dam has restored a critical water resource that had been affected by silt accumulation, enabling it to capture and store more rainwater. This has provided much needed relief to residents who have long faced water shortages, particularly during prolonged dry seasons.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to strengthening water infrastructure as a key pillar of her development agenda. Recognizing the growing demand for water and the need to protect public investments, the county government has announced plans to fence the dam and undertake further expansion works to increase its holding capacity.
The fencing project will safeguard the water facility from encroachment and damage while promoting better management and conservation of the resource. The planned expansion will further enhance the dam’s ability to harvest and store rainwater, guaranteeing a more sustainable and resilient water supply for households, livestock keepers, and farmers.
Speaking on the importance of the project, Governor Wavinya Ndeti emphasized that every investment in water is ultimately an investment in the people of Machakos, noting that improved access to water directly contributes to better health, increased agricultural productivity, stronger livelihoods, and long-term economic development.
The Isooni Earth Dam project reflects the county government’s broader vision of building climate-resilient communities through strategic investments in water infrastructure. By expanding access to clean and reliable water, the county continues to empower residents, strengthen food security, and support economic opportunities across Matungulu West and beyond.
As the county moves forward with the planned fencing and expansion works, the Isooni Earth Dam is set to become an even more dependable source of water, reinforcing Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s commitment to delivering lasting development and improving the quality of life for the people of Machakos County.
