Machakos County today marked another milestone in youth empowerment as Governor Wavinya Ndeti presided over a major graduation ceremony where hundreds of trainees completed vocational skills programs and officially received start-up toolkits to launch their careers.
The graduates, drawn from various Technical and Vocational Training Centres (TVETs) across the county, completed intensive training in key practical disciplines including Plumbing, Food & Beverage, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy (Cosmetology), Electrical & Electronics, Fashion & Design, Masonry, and Event Management & DJ studies.
In a colorful and highly charged event, the graduates proudly marched across the arena to receive certificates and essential work tools required in their respective trades a move aimed at easing their entry into the job market and empowering them to establish independent businesses.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who led the ceremony, celebrated the milestone as a major win for the youth of Machakos and a testament to her administration’s commitment to economic empowerment through skill development.
“Today we are not just issuing certificates we are releasing a skilled workforce ready to earn, create jobs, and build Machakos,” Governor Wavinya said. “By equipping our young people with both knowledge and tools of trade, we are eliminating the biggest barrier to youth entrepreneurship and employment.”
She added that her government will continue expanding skills programs and support for young people in technical fields to align with Kenya’s job-creation agenda and Vision 2030 goals.
The ceremony was graced by Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who served as the Chief Guest. He lauded Governor Wavinya’s administration for prioritizing youth empowerment, vocational training, and practical workforce development.
“Machakos is leading by example,” Dr. Kalonzo stated. “When young people are equipped with skills and supported with the tools to work, the economy grows, families thrive, and society becomes more stable. This is the future we want for our country.”
The graduates expressed heartfelt appreciation for the empowerment program, noting that the tools issued from sewing machines and toolboxes, to electrical kits, salon and beauty equipment, masonry sets, catering equipment, DJ and event gear will help them transform their skills into livelihoods immediately.
The event featured mentorship, inspiration speeches, and testimonials from alumni already running successful businesses, demonstrating the tangible impact of technical training.
Governor Wavinya reiterated that her government will continue to champion training, internship partnerships, and enterprise financing programs as part of a broader plan to industrialize Machakos through skilled manpower.
The ceremony concluded with jubilation as graduates, families, and officials celebrated a new generation of self-reliant youth ready to contribute to the county’s social and economic growth.
Machakos County continues to solidify its place as a model region for youth empowerment, vocational excellence, and practical job-creation solutions.
