Kauwi Sub-County Hospital has received a major boost in its capacity to deliver quality healthcare following the handover of newly renovated facilities and advanced medical equipment valued at KSh 14.4 million. The initiative, driven by Hon. Nicholas Mulila, Chief Corporate Security Officer at Safaricom PLC, was unveiled through the support of the M-PESA Foundation and marks a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare access for residents of Kitui West.
While widely recognized for his corporate leadership, Hon. Mulila has steadily emerged as one of Kitui County’s most impactful champions of community empowerment. His sustained investment in healthcare particularly targeting mothers, children, and vulnerable households has placed him at the forefront of transformative social development in the region.
The upgraded facility now features a fully operational theatre with modern theatre beds, high-intensity theatre lighting, an anesthesia machine, an electrolyte analyzer, and physiotherapy equipment including heavy-duty and red-light massagers. These advancements are expected to drastically reduce referrals to Kitui County Referral Hospital, enabling patients to receive timely treatment closer to home.
Kauwi Ward MCA Hon. Gabriel Munyalo applauded Mulila’s commitment, noting the deep impact of his interventions.
“Hon. Mulila continues to show that true leadership is about service,” he said. “His contribution to Kauwi and the entire Kitui West is transforming lives, and we are grateful for his unwavering dedication to uplifting our community.”
Kauwi Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Winfred Muange described the upgrades as a “game-changer,” noting that the facility is now better equipped to serve expectant mothers, handle emergencies, and provide advanced diagnostic services.
Hon. Mulila reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with the Kitui County Government in advancing both healthcare and education. He further encouraged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), emphasizing that universal health enrollment will ensure that families benefit fully from improved services. He also urged the community to continue supporting Safaricom services, noting that customer loyalty strengthens the company’s ability to invest in such life-changing projects through the M-PESA Foundation.
Representing the County Government, Health Director Mr. Ndetei emphasized that the donation aligns with the county’s efforts toward Universal Health Coverage as envisioned in Article 43 of the Constitution and the Social Health Insurance Act of 2023. He expressed gratitude to the M-PESA Foundation for its steadfast partnership in enhancing accessible and affordable healthcare.
Through leaders like Hon. Nicholas Mulila and strategic public–private partnerships, Kitui County continues to move steadily toward a healthier, empowered, and more resilient future.
