Kitui County Women Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu has launched a countywide empowerment and employability training programme targeting women and youth, in a strategic move to boost skills, confidence, and job readiness among young people.
The programme kicked off at KMTC Kitui Campus, bringing together hundreds of youth aged between 18 and 35, as well as women from different community groups. The initiative aims to equip participants with essential workplace and life skills, bridging the gap between academic qualifications and employability.
Dr. Kasalu emphasized that while formal education remains important, young people must also learn how to position themselves professionally to succeed in the competitive job market.
“There is professional training you get in school, and then there is the other chapter how you present yourself to a potential employer. These are the skills we are giving our young people,” she said during the launch.
Connecting Youth to Real Job Opportunities
To strengthen job placement, the programme will create a comprehensive talent database comprising all trained youth and women. This database will be shared with potential employers willing to recruit from Kitui.
“We are collecting their details and building a talent bank. When employers approach us, they will pick from this pool and call them for interviews and that’s where our training will help them present themselves and secure jobs,” Dr. Kasalu explained.
Countywide Outreach to Leave No One Behind
The empowerment training will be rolled out across all Kitui sub–counties to ensure inclusivity and equal access.
“We are moving to all sub–counties in Kitui, because we do not want to leave anyone behind. We urge our women and youth to register and take part in this opportunity,” she added.
The Women Representative reaffirmed her commitment to uplifting the youth and women of Kitui through targeted capacity–building programmes, economic empowerment initiatives, and opportunities that support long–term livelihood growth.
Champion for Youth & Women Empowerment
Since assuming office, Dr. Kasalu has consistently invested in community development programmes including mentorship, bursaries, sanitary dignity campaigns, and digital literacy initiatives aimed at preparing young people for future career paths.
Her latest initiative strengthens ongoing efforts to position Kitui youth for competitive roles both locally and nationally.
