Kativui Mweene: The Unstoppable King of Kamba Benga

Benard Kisilu Mbatha, popularly known by his stage names Kativui Mweene, Dawa, Mikutho, Kingauwi, Mweene Solo, and Kinara, was born in Kisola, Mwala, Machakos County. Later, he moved with his mother, Elizabeth Munee (commonly known as Mami Beth), to Kyaume, Makueni.

Kativui is well known for his bold Kamba and Swahili songs, as well as his unique dance moves. His music career began as a member of Kakongo Sisters before he joined Maluini Boyz Band, led by Mbovi. He later became part of Yatta Boys Band/Yatta Orchestra International, where he worked as a background vocalist and soloist under the leadership of Ken wa Maria.

In 2005, Kativui launched his solo career, which turned out to be highly successful. He has since released several albums, including Kyaume Volume 1 – Lena Kakuvi, Kyaume Volume 2 – Manzala, Kyaume Volume 3 – Eunice Ndila, Volume 4 – Ben Mbatha, and Volume 5 – Walelu na Ng’a Muangi.

Often referred to as the “King of Benga,” Kativui has gained a strong and loyal fan base. His impact on the Benga music scene has made him a household name. His signature style, exceptional guitar skills, and distinctive voice have set him apart. Fans appreciate how he seamlessly blends traditional Benga rhythms with modern influences, making his music both timeless and relevant.

Some of Kativui’s latest YouTube releases include Kitetenye and Cynthia. His most-watched songs on YouTube include Mumbi Wakatuti (3.2 million+ views), Makinya Ma Vangi (2 million+ views), and Liz (1.7 million views).
