Kimanga Inspects Kalundu Market Works, Reaffirms Commitment to Clean and Orderly Towns

Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga, today inspected the ongoing cabro paving works at Kalundu Market and surrounding walk paths, a flagship urban renewal project being implemented under his docket.

During the inspection tour, Kimanga expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the works, noting that the cabro installation is set to significantly improve accessibility, hygiene, and the overall outlook of Kalundu Market. He said the project will provide traders and pedestrians with safer, cleaner, and more organized public spaces, while enhancing the town’s economic vibrancy.

The County Minister emphasized that the Kalundu Market upgrade is fully aligned with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s manifesto, which prioritizes modern infrastructure and cleanliness across all town centres in Kitui County. He reiterated that the county government remains committed to ensuring that markets and urban areas are not only functional but also dignified spaces that support livelihoods and attract investment.

“As a county, we are deliberately transforming our towns to be clean, accessible, and people-friendly. These works are part of a broader plan to uplift all urban centres in line with Governor Malombe’s development agenda,” Kimanga said.

Kimanga, who is also the incoming Member of Parliament for Kitui West, assured residents that similar projects will be rolled out across other markets and towns within the county.
He underscored the importance of quality workmanship and timely completion, directing contractors to adhere strictly to set standards.
Traders and residents at Kalundu Market welcomed the initiative, saying the improved walk paths and paving would ease movement, reduce dust and mud, and create a more conducive environment for business.

The Kalundu Market cabro works form part of a countywide urban development programme aimed at modernizing public spaces, enhancing sanitation, and reinforcing Kitui County’s vision of clean, well-planned towns for all.
