Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani has called on residents to undergo cancer screening as a crucial step in early detection and treatment. Speaking during the burial ceremony of the late Kasyoka Mwove, who succumbed to cancer, Kanani emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups for both men and women.
Addressing mourners in Kitui County, Kanani expressed deep concern over the rising cases of cancer and the devastating impact it has had on families. He stressed that early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and urged residents to take advantage of medical facilities offering screening services.

“Cancer has continued to claim lives in our community, and many cases are diagnosed too late when treatment options are limited. I urge every resident, both men and women, to go for regular check-ups. Early diagnosis can save lives,” Kanani stated.
The deputy governor acknowledged the challenges faced by many in accessing quality healthcare and assured residents of the county government’s commitment to improving medical services. He reiterated that efforts are being made to establish more cancer screening centers and provide awareness campaigns to educate the public on the disease.

“As a county government, we are dedicated to enhancing healthcare services, including setting up screening programs to help our people detect diseases like cancer at an early stage. We will also collaborate with health organizations to ensure that testing is more accessible and affordable,” he affirmed.
Kanani further urged leaders, medical professionals, and community members to work together in spreading awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. He encouraged residents to seek medical attention promptly whenever they notice unusual symptoms instead of waiting until the disease progresses.
The burial of Kasyoka Mwove was attended by family, friends, and local leaders, all of whom echoed the call for heightened awareness and proactive measures in the fight against cancer. Mourners paid tribute to Mwove, remembering her as a strong and beloved member of the community.
With cancer cases on the rise across the country, medical experts continue to advocate for early testing and lifestyle adjustments to reduce risk factors. The call by Deputy Governor Kanani serves as a reminder that cancer is a battle that can be fought effectively through early detection, treatment, and community-wide commitment to health awareness.
