Makali Mulu Hails Kangu Kangu Water Project as a Lifeline for Kitui Residents

Kitui Central Member of Parliament, Dr. Makali Mulu, has lauded the commissioning of the multi-million Kangu Kangu Water Project, describing it as a “life-changing intervention” that will transform the lives of thousands of residents in Kitui South and beyond.

Speaking during the official launch of the project at Mutomo town, Dr. Mulu a renowned development economist emphasized that the initiative represents the true meaning of sustainable development. He noted that for years, residents of Kitui have endured the harsh realities of water scarcity, a challenge that has curtailed growth and undermined livelihoods.

“As a development expert, I have seen sustainable development today. I have witnessed a genuine effort to help our people,” Dr. Mulu said, adding that the project is not just about providing water but also unlocking economic potential.

The MP further pointed out that the availability of clean and reliable water supply will catalyze various economic activities, from agribusiness and livestock rearing to small-scale enterprises, thereby boosting household incomes and improving food security.

“Kangu Kangu Water Project is going to trigger a number of economic activities. This is true progress,” he affirmed.

Dr. Mulu commended the partnership between national and county governments, development partners, and the local community, saying such collaborations are key in addressing long-standing challenges in arid and semi-arid regions like Kitui.

The legislator urged residents to take ownership of the project by protecting the infrastructure and using the water responsibly to ensure it benefits both current and future generations.

The Kangu Kangu Water Project, valued at Kshs. 840 million, is expected to serve thousands of households in Kitui South, providing not only drinking water but also opportunities for irrigation, livestock farming, and industrial growth in the region.
