A middle-aged man, Kirkland Wambua Masoo, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Makindu Law Courts facing serious charges of defiling a 16-year-old girl in Makutano ma Nthongoni, located in the Kambu area of Makueni County.
According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred recently in the quiet village, sending shockwaves through the local community. Masoo appeared before the magistrate and denied the charges leveled against him, pleading not guilty.
In response, the court granted the accused a bond of Ksh100,000, with one surety of a similar amount, pending further hearing. The magistrate emphasized that the accused must adhere to all court directions and warned against any attempts to interfere with witnesses or investigations.
The case has drawn public attention amid growing concerns over the rising number of defilement cases in the region. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any incidents of sexual abuse or exploitation.
