Mumoni MCA Kasinga Defends Malombe, Challenges Media to Present Full Budget Context

Mumoni MCA Titus Kasinga has strongly defended Dr. Julius Malombe following a newspaper report alleging that KSh 2.39 billion was allocated to the Governor’s office, terming the publication misleading and lacking factual balance.

Kasinga faulted the media for failing to seek clarification from the county government before publishing the report, saying the claims were presented without proper context. He argued that Kitui, being one of the largest counties, requires substantial administrative funding to effectively coordinate development and service delivery.

He further challenged the newspaper to go beyond selective figures and examine the full scope of county spending, including allocations under key development frameworks such as the County Level Infrastructure Development Programme (CLIDP), decentralized units, pro-poor programs, and county runchers , where the budget falls under the office of the governor.

“Instead of rushing to publish half-truths, they should seek to know how much is allocated to CLIDP, decentralized units, pro-poor initiatives, and county ranches,” Kasinga stated.

He warned that presenting raw figures without context misleads the public and undermines confidence in leadership, urging journalists to uphold professionalism by verifying facts and offering balanced reporting.

“No one in office or in institutions is immune to public scrutiny, but such scrutiny or oversight must be balanced and well-informed in order to encourage accountability,” said Kasinga.
