Mutua Has No Moral Ground to Question Wavinya as Machakos Still Bleeds From His Failed Legacy

Former Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has come under fresh criticism, with local leaders and residents insisting he lacks the moral authority to question Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s performance a county he left heavily burdened, mismanaged, and betrayed by years of broken promises.

According to county officials, the damage Mutua’s administration inflicted on Machakos is still profoundly felt to date. When he exited office, Machakos was already sinking under a staggering KSh 4.2 billion in pending bills, a financial chokehold directly attributed to his administration’s unchecked expenditure and questionable fiscal discipline.

Despite Mutua’s flashy public relations and constant self-praise throughout his tenure, insiders say much of it masked deep-rooted rot. Public funds were reportedly mishandled, leaving essential services crippled and key development sectors underfunded. Even more alarming, investigations revealed several county assets were irregularly handed over to private individuals, including official vehicles that disappeared from government custody and have never been recovered.

What Mutua marketed as “flagship projects” the programs he claimed would transform Machakos have turned out to be some of the county’s biggest disappointments. Nearly 70% of these projects stalled, choked by poor planning, inflated budgets, and funds that seemingly vanished without accountability. Infrastructural works ran halfway, buildings were abandoned, and community projects remain incomplete years after their ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

Leaders argue that Governor Wavinya Ndeti is still working tirelessly to clean up the mess created under Mutua’s watch. From stabilizing county finances to reviving abandoned projects, her administration continues to shoulder the painful consequences of past mismanagement.

Residents say that before Mutua points fingers at the current government, he must first answer for his own legacy one many describe as a decade of cinema leadership, heavy on drama but light on tangible results.

As Machakos slowly rebuilds under new stewardship, the public sentiment remains firm: Mutua forfeited his moral authority the moment he left the county drowning in debt, confusion, and unfinished dreams.Mutua Has No Moral Ground to Question Wavinya as Machakos Still Bleeds From His Failed Legacy
