Former Kitui Governor and 2027 gubernatorial hopeful, Charity Kaluki Ngilu, on Saturday joined mourners in Kitungati village (Mbitini Ward), Tulia (Mutonguni Ward), and Kauma (Matinyani Ward), where she condoled with families who had lost their loved ones.
Addressing mourners, Ngilu called on Kitui residents to embrace a new political culture anchored on performance and tangible results rather than popularity and appearances. She underscored the need for leaders with a solid track record, stressing that the county cannot afford to be misled by rhetoric and flashy campaigns.
“It’s time we stop electing flower girls and boys who have nothing to show for their time in office. Our people deserve development, not empty promises,” Ngilu remarked.
She reminded residents of her tenure as governor, pointing out that leadership should be measured by the ability to transform lives through development, job creation, and service delivery. Ngilu further urged the community to unite and remain vigilant against leaders who use emotions and short-term incentives to win votes while neglecting long-term growth.
The former governor’s remarks come at a time when political realignments in Kitui County are gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with residents keenly watching aspirants’ performance records and their commitment to development.
Ngilu’s message of empathy to the grieving families, coupled with her firm stand on transformative leadership, resonated strongly with many mourners, further cementing her position as a formidable voice in Kitui’s political landscape.
