Former Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has paid a glowing tribute to the late ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a courageous, selfless, and visionary leader whose fight for justice and democracy transformed Kenya’s political landscape.
Speaking during a public gathering at Kiini in Kitui East, Ngilu said Raila’s legacy is one of boldness and unwavering commitment to the rights of ordinary citizens a quality that set him apart from many leaders of his time.
“Raila Odinga was a fearless defender of justice. From the Moi era to this day, he stood firm for the truth and for the people of Kenya. His courage and selflessness will forever be remembered in the history of our nation,” Ngilu said.
The former governor reflected on her long association with Raila in Kenya’s pro-reform struggles, noting that his relentless push for democratic space, devolution, and equal rights changed the course of the country’s political journey.
Ngilu also called on leaders from the Ukambani region to draw inspiration from Raila’s example, emphasizing that Kenya needs leaders who can speak truth to power and defend the interests of the people.
“We need brave leaders who can stand up for justice, challenge wrong decisions, and ensure that every Kenyan enjoys good governance and equal opportunities,” she urged.
Ngilu concluded by reaffirming that Raila’s ideals of unity, democracy, and service to humanity must continue to guide the next generation of leaders, not just in Ukambani but across the nation.
“Raila’s spirit of courage and sacrifice should live on in all of us,” she said.
