Political Chess: 2027 Governor Hopefuls Accused of Using MCAs to Destabilize Counties

A fresh wave of political maneuvering is taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with governor aspirants allegedly using Members of County Assembly (MCAs) as political tools to destabilize sitting county governments. The emerging trend, which was first witnessed in Meru County leading to the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, is now being replicated in Machakos and Makueni counties, targeting Governors Wavinya Ndeti and Mutula Kilonzo Jr., respectively.

A Well-Orchestrated Political Plot

Sources within county assemblies indicate that some 2027 gubernatorial hopefuls are working behind the scenes, using MCAs to threaten impeachment motions against sitting governors and their deputies. The goal is to create political instability, weaken the current administrations, and pave an easier path to power in the next elections.

“The MCAs are being used as pawns in a bigger game,” a senior official in Machakos County revealed. “They are either promised lucrative deals or coerced into supporting impeachment threats in exchange for financial and political favors.”

Business Deals and Power Games

Beyond political blackmail, money is allegedly changing hands in secretive deals between governor aspirants and MCAs. Some MCAs have been accused of initiating impeachment motions against County Assembly Speakers, further crippling governance structures to create chaos.

This playbook was effectively used in Meru, where Governor Kawira Mwangaza faced an impeachment motion spearheaded by MCAs who were reportedly influenced by individuals eyeing her seat in 2027. Political analysts now warn that a similar script is unfolding in Machakos and Makueni, with Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. as the new targets.

Machakos and Makueni on the Edge

In Machakos, reports indicate that MCAs aligned with a prominent 2027 aspirant have been holding secret meetings aimed at plotting Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s removal. Some MCAs have reportedly been promised key positions in the county government should the impeachment succeed.

A similar situation is brewing in Makueni, where sources claim that certain MCAs are being financially incentivized to initiate an impeachment motion against Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. The objective is to weaken his administration and create divisions within his support base.

Governors Fight Back

Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. have not taken these developments lightly. Their allies have accused certain political figures of attempting to sabotage development projects through unnecessary political fights.

“This is not about service delivery; it’s about selfish political interests,” an ally of Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. remarked. “Those pushing for impeachment are not acting in the interests of the people but rather for their personal gain.”

Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s supporters have also come out strongly, warning that any attempt to destabilize her administration will be met with firm resistance.

The 2027 Battle Lines Drawn

As the clock ticks toward the 2027 elections, the use of MCAs as political weapons is expected to intensify. The trend has raised concerns over the role of county assemblies, with critics arguing that impeachment processes should not be reduced to mere political transactions.

Whether these tactics will succeed remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: the battle for gubernatorial seats in Machakos and Makueni is already heating up, and the war is being fought within the county assemblies.
