The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has expressed confidence in Kitui County’s preparedness to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, following an inspection of the Ithookwe Stadium on Friday.
The stadium, which is being upgraded to host the national event slated for October 20, 2025, is now 80 percent complete, with the final phase focusing mainly on roofing. Once finished, it will accommodate 10,000 spectators, with security and logistical measures already well advanced.
Dr. Omollo, who was accompanied by Kitui County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, county and sub-county security teams, and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), assured Kenyans that adequate arrangements have been put in place to guarantee safety and smooth movement during the celebrations.
Beyond the stadium, the PS highlighted extensive infrastructural works in Kitui town, including more than 10 kilometers of newly upgraded access roads connecting Ithookwe Stadium to the State Lodge—where President William Ruto will host a post-celebration luncheon. The projects are being implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
Dr. Omollo underscored the long-term impact of rotating national celebrations across counties, noting that the government deliberately invests in infrastructure that benefits communities long after the events.
“Under President Ruto’s administration, hosting national days has gone beyond the festivities. Counties benefit from lasting projects such as modern stadiums, upgraded road networks, improved water supply, and expanded electricity connections. These are resources that strengthen local economies, support sports growth, and uplift livelihoods,” said Dr. Omollo.
With just weeks to go, Kitui is steadily positioning itself not only as the host of this year’s Mashujaa Day but also as a beneficiary of legacy developments that will transform its social and economic landscape.
