Senate Health Committee Hails Machakos Health Sector Progress, Dismisses False Claims by Mere Politicians

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the county, saying that her government will not rest until every resident has access to quality and affordable medical services.

“Our focus is on ensuring that every Machakos resident can access quality healthcare without having to travel long distances. We are equipping our facilities, hiring more healthcare professionals, and improving our referral systems. The health and well-being of our people remain at the center of my administration’s development agenda,” said Governor Wavinya.

She made the remarks while hosting the Senate Health Committee at the Machakos County headquarters after the committee conducted an oversight tour across various hospitals in the county. The governor expressed gratitude to the committee for recognizing the remarkable progress her government has achieved in the health sector, noting that their acknowledgment was a true reflection of hard work and commitment to service delivery.

During their oversight mission, the Senate Health Committee visited several health facilities, including Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Mwala Sub-County Hospital, and Kangundo Level 4 Hospital, among others. The senators expressed satisfaction with the tremendous improvements witnessed in infrastructure, medical equipment, drug supply, and staffing across the county’s health facilities.

The committee noted that under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s leadership, the Machakos health sector has made significant strides, particularly in expanding access to healthcare services and upgrading existing facilities to meet modern standards.

Committee members commended the county’s deliberate efforts to enhance maternal and child healthcare, improve emergency response services, and ensure constant availability of essential medicines in both urban and rural areas. They also hailed the county’s partnership with national and international health agencies as a key factor contributing to the sector’s success.

The senators further lauded Machakos County for adopting a people-centered approach to healthcare, emphasizing that the county’s achievements demonstrate the true spirit of devolution.

The oversight visit concluded with a joint pledge between the Senate Health Committee and the County Government of Machakos to continue collaborating in order to sustain progress and improve the health standards of all residents.
