Tensions Rise as Kathiani MP Robert Mbui Responds to Threats from Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai

A political storm is brewing in Ukambani politics following strong remarks by Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai, which have drawn sharp criticism from Kathiani MP.

Mbui has publicly condemned threats made by Mbai, who had warned that no Wiper leader should set foot in Kitui East if nominated MCA Jacquelyne Kalenga is expelled from the Wiper Party. The remarks by Mbai were widely viewed as inflammatory and divisive, coming at a time when political temperatures in the region are steadily rising.

In a firm response, MP Mbui dismissed the threats as baseless and unacceptable in a democratic society. He emphasized that no individual has the authority to dictate political access to any part of the country, including Kitui East.

“This is a democratic nation, and leaders have the right to visit any part of Kenya, including Kitui East. Such threats are not only reckless but also endanger the peace and cohesion we have worked so hard to build,” Mbui stated.

He went further to warn that should anything happen to any Wiper leader or member operating within the region, MP Mbai would be held personally responsible.

“I want to make it clear: if any harm befalls Wiper officials or supporters in Kitui East, Hon. Mbai will bear full responsibility. Politics should not be reduced to threats and intimidation,” Mbui said.

The controversy centers on nominated MCA Jacquelyne Kalenga, whose position within the Wiper Party has reportedly come under scrutiny. While details surrounding her possible expulsion remain unclear, Mbai’s vocal defense of Kalenga and subsequent threats have triggered wider political concern within the party.

The Wiper Democratic Movement has been a dominant political force in the Eastern region, and the escalating feud between its senior members could signal deeper internal conflicts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Analysts are now calling for dialogue and restraint, urging leaders to avoid statements that could incite political animosity or insecurity among constituents.

As the situation unfolds, the eyes of the region remain fixed on the leadership of Wiper and the steps it will take to address internal disagreements while maintaining party unity.
