Kitui County Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development and the incoming Kitui West MP 2027, Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga, has unveiled a series of transformative urban development projects for Kabati town, as he joined mourners in laying to rest the late businessman David Ngii Kuvungwa, popularly known as Shabiki.

Speaking during the burial ceremony held today at Kiuwi Ward, Kimanga mourned the late Shabiki as a hardworking and visionary young entrepreneur whose death has deeply shaken the community.

“We have lost a diligent and dedicated businessman who contributed immensely to the growth of Kabati. I condole with the family, friends, and the entire Kitui West community during this difficult moment,” Kimanga said.

While addressing security concerns raised by residents, Kimanga announced a major step that will significantly improve safety and enhance nighttime business operations in Kabati.

“In the next two weeks, my Ministry of Urban Development will install twenty (20) new streetlights across Kabati town. This will help boost security, support traders, and improve the overall urban environment,” he stated.

The announcement was welcomed by locals who have long appealed for improved lighting due to increasing insecurity and rapid population growth in the area.

Kabati Land Use Plan Underway

Kimanga also revealed that Kabati land use planning is actively underway to guide orderly growth, noting that Kabati remains one of the fastest-growing towns in Kitui County.

“Kabati is expanding at a very high rate. To avoid chaotic development and ensure proper planning, we have already initiated the Kabati Land Use Plan. This will guide zoning, infrastructure development, and future investments,” he said.

In addition, Kimanga announced a major partnership between the State Department of Housing and the Kitui County Government to construct modern markets in both Tulia and Kabati.

“We are working jointly with the national government to build new, modern markets in Tulia and Kabati. The County Government will provide the land, and the State Department of Housing will fund the construction,” he disclosed.

He emphasized that these developments will uplift small-scale traders, boost local commerce, and strengthen the region’s economic foundation.

Addressing the brutal killing of Shabiki, Kimanga urged security agencies operating in Kabati to heighten surveillance and ensure criminals are brought to book.

“We must not allow insecurity to disrupt the growth of this vibrant town. I urge our security teams to intensify operations and protect our people, especially as Kabati continues to grow,” he emphasized.
