Kiio Tells Ruto: You’re Welcome to Kitui, But First Deliver on Your Old Promises

Kitui Senator Hon. Enoch Kiio Wambua has told President William Ruto that he is welcome to visit Kitui County at any time as the Head of State, but reminded him that residents expect action and not more unfulfilled promises.

Speaking on Friday at a public gathering, the outspoken legislator said Kitui residents respect the Office of the President and have no issue with Dr. Ruto touring the region. “President Ruto is free to visit Kitui County anytime. He is the president of the Republic of Kenya,” Senator Wambua said.

However, the Senator maintained that the people of Kitui are still waiting for the implementation of several development pledges that Dr. Ruto made during his earlier visits to the county. He emphasized that residents are tired of endless rhetoric and that time has come for the national government to walk the talk.

“He shouldn’t come here to make more promises,” Senator Wambua warned. “We expect him to first fulfill the promises he made before.”

The senator’s remarks come at a time when Kitui residents are raising concerns over stalled national government projects in the county, among them roads infrastructure, water projects and economic empowerment programs which were promised in the run-up to the last general election.

Hon. Wambua further urged the president to prioritise the needs of the people and show tangible progress in the implementation of development programmes. According to him, leaders must be accountable and focus on delivery rather than political pronouncements.
