Governor Mutula Champions Education as 81 Makueni Students Earn County Scholarships

In a strong show of commitment towards empowering youth through education, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. on Monday led an inspiring orientation ceremony for 81 fresh university scholarship beneficiaries under the County Government’s scholarship programme.

Addressing the students, Governor Mutula praised them for their outstanding KCSE performance and emphasised that education remains a powerful tool for transforming not only individual lives, but entire households and communities. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to expanding access to quality education, especially for high-achieving learners from vulnerable backgrounds.

“This programme is about giving every child, regardless of where they were born, an equal chance to build a better future,” Governor Mutula told the beneficiaries. He urged the scholars to maintain discipline and focus throughout their academic journey and called on them to carry the Makueni flag with honour wherever they go.

Since its establishment, the Makueni County Scholarship Programme has benefitted 758 learners; 295 are currently in secondary schools, while 217 have progressed to various universities across the country. The 81 new beneficiaries join this growing pool of young intellectuals who, thanks to the scholarship, can now fulfil their dreams in universities of their choice.

Governor Mutula further challenged the new scholars to become solution-oriented leaders in society, using their education to address the challenges facing their communities. He said his administration will continue to prioritise education as the backbone of socio-economic development in Makueni County.

“As a government, we will walk with you in this journey. Your success is the success of Makueni,” the Governor said.

The ceremony marked another milestone in the County’s efforts to invest in its young people and nurture the next generation of professionals and leaders.
