Tension has escalated sharply in Mumbuni North after bodaboda operators reported shocking intimidation and humiliation allegedly orchestrated by CS Alfred Mutua, Mwingi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, and Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the three leaders whose political alliance has been under growing scrutiny allegedly targeted local bodaboda riders after they refused to support the Maendeleo Chap Chap–fronted candidate ahead of Thursday’s by-election. Riders say they were subjected to harassment and even arrests after asserting their democratic right to vote freely.
The allegations paint a picture of a political cabal desperate to force control over a community that has already made its stand clear:
“A vote for Anthony Kisoi is a vote for Kalonzo Musyoka.”
Residents Condemn “Colonial-Style” Leadership
Community members have fiercely condemned the trio, accusing them of behaving like colonial overlords who believe they can intimidate and control citizens through threats and coercion.
“The era of fear is gone. We will not be bullied,” said one bodaboda rider who witnessed the arrests.
Locals described the conduct of the three leaders as “arrogant, disrespectful, and hostile to the will of the people”, warning that Mumbuni North will not accept leaders who treat them as political hostages.
Growing Backlash Against the Trio
This latest incident has intensified public resentment against Mutua, Mutuse, and Caleb leaders who were already facing criticism for alleged political interference and heavy-handed tactics in the by-election.
Residents say the attempts to force voters into supporting the Chap Chap candidate prove the three are fully aware that ground support has overwhelmingly shifted toward Hon. Anthony Kisoi, whose candidacy has energized the community.
Political observers note that the panic within the trio’s camp reflects a broader fear:
Mumbuni North slipping completely out of their control.
Community Defiance Growing Stronger
Instead of weakening Kisoi’s support base, the intimidation has only hardened the community’s resolve. Local leaders and mobilizers now describe the by-election as a defining moment:
“Mumbuni North will show the entire country that democracy cannot be bought, forced, or intimidated.”
As investigations into the reported arrests continue, one thing is clear:
The people of Mumbuni North have spoken and no amount of pressure from Mutua, Mutuse, and Caleb will shake their stand.
