Katyethyoka residents are set to benefit from enhanced security, extended business hours, and improved social activities after Kitui County officially launched Phase Two of the Katyethyoka Streetlighting Project an investment valued at Ksh 3.3 million.
The site handover ceremony was led today by the County Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Waziri Generali Fredrick Kimanga, marking yet another milestone in the county’s efforts to modernize urban infrastructure and improve safety across the municipality.
Under this phase, a total of 30 streetlights will be installed from Katyethyoka town to the Assistant Chief’s office. This follows the successful rollout of Phase One, which saw 24 streetlights installed, significantly improving night visibility and security in the area.
Waziri Kimanga noted that the project directly aligns with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s development manifesto, which prioritizes modernizing all major town centers through improved lighting and strengthened security systems.
“This project is part of the governor’s commitment to ensure our urban centers are well-lit, safe, and conducive for both business and social activities. When security improves, our people thrive,” Kimanga said while addressing the media.
The minister emphasized that the county government will remain firm on ensuring quality and durability in every streetlighting project undertaken.
“We have been clear with the contractor that quality work is non-negotiable, as Governor Malombe consistently advocates. Strict supervision will be enforced to ensure value for money and long-term service for our residents,” he added.
Waziri Kimanga highlighted that improved streetlighting is critical in reducing crime, supporting small traders, boosting the boda boda sector, and enabling residents to move freely and safely at night.
Municipal Manager Madam Irene was present during the handover and commended the county leadership for prioritizing impactful, people-centered developments.
Residents expressed optimism that the expansion of the streetlighting network will transform the area, stimulating evening business, improving mobility, and enhancing overall public safety.
The Ksh 3.3 million investment firmly positions Katyiethyoka on a path of continued growth, aligning with the broader county agenda of creating vibrant, secure, and economically active urban spaces. Phase Two marks not just an infrastructure upgrade, but a significant step toward improving the everyday lives of the community.
