Makueni’s Proximie Health Innovation Attracts International Interest

Makueni County’s adoption of the Proximie digital health platform has continued to draw global attention, with international teams visiting the county to witness firsthand how the technology is transforming public healthcare delivery.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, while speaking in Wote, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. said the integration of Proximie into the county’s health system had significantly improved surgical services by enhancing efficiency, reducing pressure on healthcare workers, and promoting continuous skills development among local medical teams.

The Governor noted that his administration remains committed to a human-centered approach to governance, emphasizing the importance of supporting healthcare workers through modern technological solutions that reduce workplace challenges and improve service delivery.

Proximie enables remote medical specialists to virtually “scrub in” during surgical procedures, providing real-time guidance through augmented reality. According to county health officials, the technology has contributed to a notable reduction in patient referrals to Nairobi, lowered treatment costs, and expanded access to timely specialist care within the county.
The platform has also been praised for strengthening skills transfer, allowing local clinicians to handle complex procedures more effectively while building long-term capacity within the county’s health workforce.

Makueni County is the first in Africa to fully integrate Proximie into its public health system, positioning the county as a leading benchmark for digital healthcare innovation in Kenya and across the continent.
