Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Tuesday presided over the pass-out parade of 1,700 youths under the Machakos Youth Services Programme, marking the second cohort since the initiative was rolled out by her administration.
The ceremony was held at the White House grounds in Machakos County, where Governor Ndeti underscored her government’s firm commitment to youth empowerment through discipline, skills development and job creation.
The 1,700 youths had successfully completed an intensive 21-day paramilitary discipline training, aimed at instilling discipline, patriotism, teamwork and a strong sense of responsibility. The governor noted that the training was a critical foundation in preparing the youth for productive engagement in society.
Following the pass-out, the recruits will now join various vocational and technical training centres across the county, where they will be trained in different market-driven courses. Upon completion of their vocational training, they will be provided with tools and equipment to enable them to venture into self-employment and create sustainable livelihoods.
Governor Ndeti said the Machakos Youth Services Programme is a flagship initiative under her leadership, deliberately designed to tackle youth unemployment and equip young people with practical skills.
“Our focus is to empower the youth with discipline and skills so that they can become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the county’s economic growth,” she said.
The programme is expected to significantly reduce unemployment levels in Machakos County while nurturing a skilled, disciplined and productive workforce.
County officials and stakeholders who attended the event praised the initiative, describing it as a transformative programme that is giving hope and direction to thousands of young people across the county.
