The sub-county finals of the Governor’s Cup in Kitui West concluded in thrilling fashion at Kauwi Grounds, with teams displaying remarkable talent and determination in a tournament widely credited to the vision of Julius Malombe, the Governor of Kitui County.

The competition, which has been traversing different sub-counties in search of emerging football talent, reached a high point in Kitui West where hundreds of fans turned up to witness the decisive matches. The initiative, championed by Governor Malombe, continues to gain popularity as it provides a platform for young players to nurture their skills while promoting unity and sportsmanship across the county.

In the women’s final, Katutu Queens produced an impressive performance to defeat Maseki Starlets in a tightly contested match. The victory earned Katutu Queens a coveted spot at the county level of the tournament, where they will represent Kitui West against other top teams from across the county.

The men’s final was equally electrifying, pitting Kololo FC against Mutanda FC in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Kololo FC emerged victorious after an intense battle, securing their qualification to the county stage and cementing their status as the sub-county champions.

The tournament, popularly known as the Governor’s Cup, is part of Governor Malombe’s broader strategy to empower youth through sports and identify hidden talent across Kitui County. Through the initiative, the county government aims to create opportunities for young people to showcase their abilities while steering them away from social vices.

Local leaders and sports enthusiasts who attended the finals lauded the governor for prioritizing youth development, noting that the competition has revitalized community sports and brought together residents from different wards in a spirit of unity.
