Malombe Leads Kitui in Marking International Women’s Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Women Empowerment

Julius Malombe, the Governor of Kitui County, led residents in marking International Women’s Day celebrations at Nyuani Primary School in Mutonguni Ward, Kitui West Sub-county.

Speaking during the event, Governor Malombe praised women for their vital role in building families, strengthening communities and driving economic growth. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women through improved access to education, healthcare, leadership opportunities and economic programmes.

“As your Governor, I assure you that the County Government of Kitui remains steadfast in promoting policies that advance the well-being of women and girls through education, healthcare and economic opportunities,” said Malombe.

The governor highlighted key initiatives by his administration, including the employment of 1,678 ECDE teachers, most of whom are women, expansion of clean water through solarized boreholes in Mutonguni Ward, and support for women entrepreneurs through the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) programme.

Malombe also congratulated Monica Juma on her appointment as Under-Secretary-General at the United Nations and Agnes Mulewa for her appointment as Kitui County Secretary, noting that their achievements reflect the growing role of women in leadership.

Among those present were MPs Irene Kasalu and Edith Nyenze, as well as Ben Muasya of the Commission on Revenue Allocation and several county officials.
