International Women’s Day celebrations in Kitui County took a powerful turn after philanthropist and women empowerment champion Stellah Mengele challenged women to embrace generosity and community support under the theme “Give to Gain.”
Speaking during the celebrations attended by hundreds of women from across the county, Mengele emphasized that giving whether through mentorship, resources, or support creates stronger communities and opens opportunities for growth.
Mengele, the founder of Stellah Mengele Foundation and its outreach initiative Gift Connect, said empowering women requires collective responsibility and a spirit of sharing.
She noted that when women uplift one another, they not only transform families but also drive meaningful development in society.
“Giving is not about how much you have but about the willingness to uplift another person. When women support each other, everyone gains,” she said, urging women in Kitui to use their talents, knowledge, and resources to support those in need.
The event was graced by Julius Malombe, who commended initiatives that empower women and strengthen community welfare. He said the county government continues to support programs that promote women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and social wellbeing.
Also present was Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani, who praised women for their role in shaping families and communities across the county.
Kitui County Commissioner Erustus Mbui, area MP Edith nyenze,Irene Kasalu, and several county ministers also attended the celebration.
The county executive team was led by Phoebe Mutemi, who reiterated the county’s commitment to advancing gender equality and expanding opportunities for women.
Throughout the event, women were encouraged to embrace unity, mentorship, and generosity as key pillars for personal and community development.
Mengele concluded by calling on women across Kitui County to champion the spirit of “Give to Gain,” saying the future of communities depends on how individuals support and uplift one another.
