The County Government of Machakos is demonstrating decisive leadership in protecting its agricultural sector following the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Athi River, Mavoko Sub-County. Under the stewardship of Wavinya Ndeti, the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock, and Co-operative Development (Veterinary Services) has rolled out a rapid, countywide intervention aimed at containing the disease and securing farmers’ economic stability.At the heart of this response is a free mass vaccination campaign targeting livestock across all 40 wards. This proactive initiative underscores the county’s commitment to minimizing losses, safeguarding food systems, and strengthening resilience among livestock farmers.Farmers have been urged to actively participate in the exercise by preparing vaccination crushes and organizing designated sites to facilitate efficient service delivery.
