A wave of jubilation and optimism swept through Kabati in Kitui West on Monday as the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, under the stewardship of Rev. Bishop Joseph Mwongela, officially opened the newly constructed Kabati Parochial School—a modern educational institution expected to transform the learning landscape in the region.
The momentous event was graced by a high-profile delegation of Kitui leaders, including Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua, County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Fredrick Kimanga, Nicholas Mulila, and Area MCA Gabriel Munyao. The leaders joined hundreds of residents, clergy, parents, and students in a colorful celebration that combined prayer, speeches, and traditional performances.
In his address, Bishop Mwongela emphasized the role of faith-based institutions in uplifting education standards and shaping moral values in society.
“Education is the most powerful tool for changing our society. This school is not just a building, but a symbol of hope, transformation, and partnership between the church, government, and community,” said Bishop Mwongela during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new school, which sits on a spacious compound donated by the church, boasts modern classrooms, administration blocks, and playgrounds. It aims to serve the growing population of Kabati and its surrounding areas by offering holistic education grounded in Catholic values.
Senator Kiio Wambua hailed the Catholic Diocese for its consistent contribution to education and social development, saying:“We cannot underestimate the role the church continues to play in education and moral formation. As leaders, we are proud to partner with such initiatives that directly touch the lives of our people.”
Hon. Fredrick Kimanga reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting educational infrastructure, especially in underserved regions like Kitui West. He noted that the collaboration between religious institutions and local authorities would be key to sustainable development.
Nicholas Mulila, a respected community leader and philanthropist, encouraged parents to take full advantage of the new facility, emphasizing the importance of education in unlocking the potential of the youth.
MCA Gabriel Munyao, who has been instrumental in mobilizing community support for the school, promised continued grassroots engagement to ensure that the school grows into a center of excellence.
As the inaugural classes prepare to begin, Kabati Parochial School stands as a beacon of unity and progress, embodying the dreams of a community determined to invest in its future through education.
