“Clear the Confusion or Risk Voter Apathy” Makali Mulu Emerges as Kitui’s Strong Voice, Rallies Residents to Register Amid IEBC Uncertainty

Residents of Kitui County have been urged to turn out in large numbers to register as voters amid growing confusion surrounding the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking during a public gathering in Kitui Central, area Member of Parliament Makali Mulu criticized the electoral body for what he termed as “mixed signals” regarding whether Kenyans who registered as voters in 2012 are required to update their details or register afresh.

Dr. Mulu noted that the lack of clear communication from the IEBC risks discouraging citizens from participating in the democratic process. He called on the commission to urgently clarify the matter to avoid further confusion among voters.

“Kenyans deserve clear and consistent information. The IEBC must come out plainly and tell citizens whether those who registered in 2012 should update their details or register afresh. This uncertainty is unnecessary,” he stated.

Despite the concerns, the legislator strongly encouraged all eligible residents to take advantage of the exercise and ensure they are duly registered, emphasizing the importance of civic participation in shaping the country’s leadership.

Dr. Mulu, who has increasingly positioned himself as a key political figure in the region, used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to empowering the people of Kitui through informed participation in governance. His remarks also come amid growing anticipation around the county’s future leadership, with political observers linking his mobilization efforts to broader ambitions, including the race for the Kitui gubernatorial seat.

The “incoming governor” narrative surrounding Dr. Mulu continues to gain traction among sections of residents, many of whom view his vocal advocacy and grassroots engagement as a sign of readiness to steer the county forward.

Local leaders and residents echoed his sentiments, calling on the IEBC to enhance public awareness campaigns and provide straightforward guidance on the registration process.

As the country prepares for future elections, the call for clarity and transparency remains central, with leaders like Makali Mulu urging institutions to uphold public trust by ensuring no eligible voter is left behind due to misinformation.
