Deputy President Rigathi Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence in Kitui County’s preparedness to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, following an inspection tour of two major infrastructure projects currently underway in Kitui town.
With Mashujaa Day set for October 20, the Deputy President inspected the 10,000-seater Ithookwe Stadium and the rehabilitation of the Ithookwe Airstrip two flagship projects central to the national event and long-term development of the county.
The Ithookwe Stadium, which is 80 percent complete, is being constructed to international standards at a cost of KSh 700 million. Once complete, it will not only serve as the venue for the national celebrations but also provide Kitui residents with a modern facility for sports tournaments, cultural events, and community activities for generations to come.
Kindiki urged the contractor to expedite the works, stressing that the government would not compromise on quality and standards even as deadlines approach. “We are determined to ensure that Kitui hosts the best Mashujaa Day in history. But beyond the celebrations, these projects are investments for the people of Kitui and must stand the test of time,” he said.
The Deputy President also toured the Ithookwe Airstrip, whose KSh 150 million facelift is on course. Once completed, the facility is expected to enhance regional connectivity, open up Kitui to new economic opportunities, and ease travel logistics during the celebrations.
Kitui town has been experiencing a wave of infrastructure upgrades in readiness for the national event, including improved road networks, expanded water supply, and electrification projects. Leaders and residents alike have welcomed the investments, terming them a long-overdue boost for the region’s growth.
As the countdown to Mashujaa Day continues, Kitui is steadily transforming into a hub of activity and development, with the Ithookwe Stadium and Airstrip standing out as symbols of progress that will outlast the festivities.
