DP Kindiki: Stability Above Politics as Government Commits to Equitable Empowerment

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has issued a strong statement reaffirming the government’s commitment to national stability and inclusive development, even as he warned against political opportunism and attempts to destabilize the country.

Speaking during a public address at Kanyangi in Kitui Rural, kitui county Kindiki emphasized that the government’s bottom-up empowerment agenda is rooted in sustainability and dignity not populist handouts timed with election seasons.

“We will not wait for campaigns to begin dishing out free things to lure the people. True empowerment must be consistent and transformative, not seasonal,” said Kindiki.

The Deputy President reiterated that all regions, including the Ukambani counties, deserve equitable access to national development. He noted that citizens in the region pay taxes just like other Kenyans and are fully entitled to government services.

“You are not doing anyone a favor by demanding development. You are entitled to it. That is why our agenda is national, not regional,” he added.

At the heart of Kindiki’s message was a sharp warning against efforts to politicize national security and manipulate the frustrations of young people for selfish gains. Referring to recent incidents of destruction and looting witnessed across parts of the country, he acknowledged that many youths were driven by legitimate demands for accountability and better governance but warned that criminal elements had infiltrated their cause.

“We will not allow lawless individuals to hide behind the Constitution to destroy government installations, steal weapons, and compromise national security,” Kindiki warned. “There is a clear line between exercising constitutional freedoms and attacking the foundations of a peaceful nation.”

He drew historical parallels with Kenya’s darkest moments the 1982 attempted coup and the 2007/2008 post-election violence to caution that the price of chaos is always paid in blood, broken families, and economic ruin.

“Those were painful chapters in our history. We lost lives. We lost property. We are still paying the price. We cannot afford to go back,” he stressed.

Kindiki also had firm words for political leaders he accused of fueling unrest through incitement and mockery of state efforts to maintain order.

“National security is not a subject for political theatrics. Anyone stoking violence or planning subversion should know that the government is alert. We will act decisively not for political gain but for the future of our country.”

Despite his stern tone on matters of law and order, the Deputy President underscored that the government remains committed to safeguarding democratic freedoms.

“We respect the rights of Kenyans to speak out, to protest peacefully, and to hold government to account. But that must never become a license for lawlessness. Freedom must go hand in hand with responsibility.”

In closing, Prof. Kindiki affirmed that the administration is prepared to make difficult decisions to preserve the country’s peace even if it means losing political popularity.

“We will choose Kenya over politics. We are ready to be unpopular, but we will not allow this nation to descend into disorder,” he said.
