Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on the National Government to fully fund county governments to enable them to effectively deliver on the devolved functions. Speaking at Kibauni Ward in Mwala Sub-county while issuing empowerment items to local groups, Governor Wavinya emphasized the importance of adequate funding for devolution to succeed.
“If counties are given funds the right way, we will be able to provide job opportunities and deliver services effectively. When the National Government works hand in hand with counties, real change will be seen,” said Wavinya.
She further urged the National Government to engage with the youth and understand their needs, noting that young people form the majority of the population. “It is important to listen to our youth and address their challenges they are the majority and the future of this country,” she said.
In her commitment to agricultural empowerment and economic growth, Governor Wavinya distributed 1,824 Galla goats to 76 farmer groups and 2,303 one-month-old improved Kienyeji chicks along with chick mash to four farmer groups in Ikalaasa, Kibauni Ward.
“We have given out Galla goats, chicks, farm inputs, dam liners for fish ponds, fruit trees, vegetable seeds, and I will soon issue fingerlings. I have also distributed pesticides and chain link fencing for fish ponds,” Wavinya said.
At Kiunduani Sub-location, the Governor empowered 100 farmers with dam liners, fruit trees, and fingerlings demonstrating her administration’s focus on strengthening irrigation, agroforestry, and aquaculture.
Governor Wavinya reiterated her dedication to meaningful empowerment across Machakos County. “I will continue empowering our people through practical initiatives as I promised,” she affirmed.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support. Elizabeth Musyoki, who received chickens, said, “These chickens will help me get eggs, meat, and extra income to pay school fees and cater to household needs. Thank you, Governor Wavinya.”said Elizabeth
Janet Mutisya, chairlady of Muyo Women Group, praised the provision of Galla goats, noting they will provide milk, meat, and manure, boosting their livelihoods.
During the same event, Governor Wavinya and her Deputy Francis Mwangangi rallied the Kamba community to support Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid, emphasizing the need for unity and solidarity behind one of their own
