Kitui County Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele is emerging as a strong contender for the Kitui Senate seat ahead of the 2027 General Election, with his academic credentials, leadership experience and understanding of governance setting him apart.
With a PhD in Finance from the University of Nairobi and CPA(K) qualification, Dr. Mbaya brings the financial expertise needed to strengthen oversight, scrutinise public spending and defend Kitui’s share of national revenue.
As the serving Agriculture CECM, he has championed climate-smart agriculture, strengthened extension services and supported farmer cooperatives, while also contributing to national agricultural policy through the Council of Governors.
His combination of professional expertise, county leadership and grassroots experience makes him a compelling choice for a Senate seat that demands competence, accountability and a strong voice for devolution.
Dr. Mbaya represents a different kind of leadership: a scholar with practical experience and a development-minded leader ready to defend Kitui’s interests.
