Former Lands Commissioner and ex-Baringo Central MP, Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita, has been arrested in connection with a high-value land fraud case involving two prime plots in Nairobi West.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mwaita was apprehended in Kilimani on Sunday. He is accused of several offences including conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, abuse of office, and giving false information to a public official.
“Detectives have today arrested Hon. Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita at Kilimani for the offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, making a document without authority, abuse of office, and giving false information to a person employed in the public service,” read part of the DCI’s statement.
His arrest comes after fresh instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) concerning the disputed parcels along Mai Mahiu Road in Nairobi West. The land, said to be worth millions of shillings, is at the center of the ongoing investigations.
DCI noted that the former MP is being processed for arraignment even as a manhunt continues for another suspect believed to be involved in the fraudulent dealings.
This case adds to the growing list of land-related corruption allegations involving former government officials, even as authorities ramp up efforts to restore integrity in the management of public assets.
