Four people were killed on Friday afternoon after suspected armed bandits attacked residents at Itimba-Ithei in Tseikuru, Kitui County.
The victims were watering their livestock when the attackers struck at around 12:30 p.m., opening fire before fleeing the scene.
Confirming the incident, Kitui County Commissioner Erastus Mbui said security officers had been deployed to the area and a security operation launched to pursue the attackers.
He noted that communication from the remote area had been hampered by poor network coverage.
The attack occurred near Kwa Kamari, where eight people were killed by suspected camel herders last month, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
Authorities are still assessing the situation as investigations continue and more details emerge.
