Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti today launched the issuance of prosthetic limbs to 68 beneficiaries at Machakos County Level 5 Hospital, marking a major milestone in the county’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and improved quality of life for persons living with disabilities.
The beneficiaries include 58 residents from Machakos County and 10 from neighboring counties within the Lower Eastern region. An additional 200 beneficiaries are set to receive prosthetic limbs during the next phase of the programme, significantly expanding its impact across the region.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Wavinya Ndeti underscored her administration’s commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services. She noted that the initiative will restore mobility, independence, dignity, and hope to beneficiaries, empowering them to actively participate in social, economic, and community life.
The Governor highlighted that Machakos County has become the first county in the Lower Eastern region to offer specialized prosthetic and rehabilitation services, positioning the county as a regional center of excellence in disability support and rehabilitation care.
To further enhance accessibility, Governor Ndeti announced plans to devolve the services to all Level 4 health facilities across the county, bringing specialized care closer to communities and reducing the burden of travel for patients seeking rehabilitation services.
“This programme is about transforming lives and restoring hope. By providing prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation support, we are enabling our people to regain their independence and contribute meaningfully to society,” said Governor Ndeti.
The Governor expressed gratitude to SwissAbility for partnering with the County Government of Machakos in implementing the initiative, describing the collaboration as a testament to the power of strategic partnerships in delivering life changing interventions to vulnerable populations.
The launch reinforces the county government’s broader agenda of strengthening healthcare systems, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring equitable access to specialized medical services for all residents.
