Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has joined thousands of Catholic faithful from across the country in witnessing the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Monsignor John Mbua Mwandi as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.
The colourful and historic ceremony was presided over by His Grace Philip Subira Anyolo, Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, bringing together Church leaders, government officials, political leaders and Catholic faithful to mark the beginning of Bishop Mwandi’s new pastoral ministry.
Governor Malombe, who represented the people of Kitui at the important occasion, congratulated Bishop Mwandi on his appointment, ordination and installation, describing the occasion as a significant milestone for both the Catholic Church and the people of Kitui.
The Governor said Bishop Mwandi takes over the leadership of the Diocese at an important time and expressed confidence that his pastoral leadership would strengthen the Church’s role in promoting faith, unity, peace and the wellbeing of the people.
Dr. Malombe wished the new Bishop God’s wisdom, strength and guidance as he assumes his responsibilities, while calling upon Catholic faithful to give him their full support and cooperation as he serves the Church and the people of Kitui.
“Bishop Mwandi’s ordination and installation marks a significant milestone for the Catholic Church and the people of Kitui. We wish him God’s guidance and success as he begins this important pastoral responsibility,” Governor Malombe said.
The Governor also commended the Catholic Church for its continued contribution to the social and spiritual development of communities, noting the important role the Church plays in education, healthcare, social welfare and promoting peaceful coexistence.
On his part, Bishop Mwandi expressed gratitude to the faithful for standing with him and pledged to work closely with them as he begins his new ministry. He called for continued unity and collaboration in advancing the mission of the Church.
The ceremony brought together a host of leaders, among them Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu, Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu, Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna and Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Kinengo Katisya, alongside other leaders and dignitaries.
The installation of Bishop Mwandi marks a new chapter in the history of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, with the new Bishop expected to continue the Church’s longstanding mission of serving the faithful and contributing to the development and welfare of the wider community.
