Fr. John Mbua Mwandi installed as new Bishop of kitui.

More than 10,000 Catholic faithful from across Kitui and beyond today gathered for a colourful and historic ceremony to witness the installation of Fr. John Mbua Mwandi at St. Charles lwanga grounds as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.

Bishop Mbua Mwandi takes over the leadership of the Diocese following the transfer of Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela to the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, where he has been appointed to continue his episcopal ministry.

Before his appointment as Bishop of Kitui by His Holiness Pope Leo, Fr. John Mbua Mwandi served as the Vicar General, a position that placed him at the heart of the pastoral and administrative leadership of the Diocese. His experience in Church leadership is expected to provide a strong foundation as he assumes his new episcopal responsibilities.

The colourful installation ceremony brought together thousands of Catholic faithful, priests, religious leaders, political leaders and members of the community, who turned up in large numbers to welcome the new bishop and celebrate the transition of leadership.

The Word of God was preached by Archbishop Anthony Muheria of the Archdiocese of Nyeri, who urged Bishop Mbua to remain faithful to his calling and serve the people of Kitui with humility, wisdom, compassion and dedication.

Archbishop Muheria emphasised the importance of strong pastoral leadership, unity and commitment to the Gospel as Bishop Mbua begins his new mission at the helm of the Kitui Diocese.

The faithful expressed confidence in the new bishop and pledged their support as he begins his pastoral journey, with expectations that he will strengthen evangelisation, spiritual growth, unity and the Church’s service to the wider community.

The occasion was marked by prayers, hymns, celebration and a strong sense of unity as more than 10,000 Catholics and faithful gathered to welcome Bishop Mbua Mwandi to his new pastoral assignment in Kitui.
