Kitui County is set to mark a major milestone in its efforts to regulate the alcohol industry as H.E. Dr. Julius M. Malombe, EGH, Governor of Kitui County, presides over the official inauguration of the County and Sub-County Alcoholic Drinks Control Committees.
The committees, which have been fully appointed and officially gazetted, were established in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Kitui County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2014, and its 2024 Amendment. Their primary role is to ensure the effective implementation of the Act’s mandate.
The committees are tasked with overseeing a comprehensive range of regulatory functions including the licensing, production, sale, distribution, promotion, and use of alcoholic drinks within the county. Their formation marks a decisive step in strengthening local governance and public health safeguards related to alcohol consumption.
Governor Malombe is expected to emphasize the County Government’s commitment to promoting responsible alcohol consumption, reducing related harm, and supporting community well-being during the inauguration ceremony.
The move is anticipated to enhance enforcement of existing laws, streamline regulatory processes, and empower communities to play a more active role in addressing alcohol-related challenges across Kitui County.
