Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has called on the national government to uphold its constitutional mandate by equitably distributing resources to all counties. Speaking at Kavatini Catholic Parish in Masongaleni during a vibrant thanksgiving mass, the Governor joined hundreds of congregants in celebrating the ordination of Rev. Father Christopher Kimanthi and Deacons Paul Kikoi and Paul Ngundo.
Addressing the faithful, Governor Mutula lauded the newly ordained clergymen for their selfless dedication to serving the community through faith. He noted that spiritual leadership remains an essential pillar of community development, especially in rural areas like Masongaleni.
While celebrating the religious milestone, the Governor used the platform to press the national government on matters of equity and development. “The Constitution is clear—resources must be shared equitably across all counties. For true development to take root, we must pair service delivery with fair funding,” he emphasized.
Citing Masongaleni as home to one of the county’s largest water projects, Governor Mutula reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling water scarcity, which he termed as Makueni’s top development priority. “Access to clean water is not a privilege—it is a right. That is why we are investing heavily in long-term water solutions,” he said.
Governor Mutula also took issue with what he termed as disrespectful political maneuvers by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, popularly known as Kawaya. He criticized the MP’s recent invitation to Ukambani leaders for a consultative meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, saying many leaders, including himself, only learned of the meeting through Facebook.
“For an issue as critical as the development of the Ukambani region, it is unacceptable that senior leaders are sidelined or casually invited via social media. It undermines the spirit of consultation and unity we need to move forward,” he remarked.
The Governor concluded by urging leaders to foster inclusive dialogue and collaboration, warning that development must not be politicized or used as a tool of exclusion.
